I'm crossposting from Dreamwidth - same name MustangSally78. Friend me.

I'm prepared for the great exodus out of Russia.

For Herself, who asked, my back is great. Itchy but great. I'm sans bandage and just hanging loose with the Steri strips which should fall off when they're ready. I had to wash my hair in the sink like a CHILD for a week, which was horrible because said hair has hit the bra strap length-wise and it was just an ugly, wet mess. I never thought I'd be so happy to take a shower and not worry about getting part of my back wet.

Da Hem and Da Gatz are awesome, as usual, although Hem has developed a weird habit of patting at my boobs when we nap together. It seems innocent enough, but it would be hard to explain if someone happened to see it. That being said, Wimsey used to snuggle down in my cleavage with a downright lascivious expression, so don't tell me cats don't know.

I'm really Jonesing for some new Sherlock fic. I've been through the TOP TEN on AO3 and I've read just about everything that comes out on the comms, but with LJ down, I'm cut off! I guess I need my 7% solution!

Act now on that DW invite code! I'll even through in a Ginsu (kidding). How about some cat poo? I've got lots of that.

I'm really OVER this. At the risk of sounding like an ugly American: I don't pay good money to have LJ go down on random occasions. I'm really sorry that the Russian Federation has to oppress its people, but I liked it better when LJ was run by slacker hackers in the Pacific Northwest. I am being denied my Sherlock slash and this is making me cranky.

When I was about 13, I thought she was the shit and wanted to be just like Sarah Jane. She was a beacon to smart little brunette girls everywhere.

I met her at my first Con - she was with Pertwee, and she couldn't have been nicer or more gracious.

Damn, 63 is really young.

Old, and not wiser

So, it's my birthday today, and I've paused to take stock of things, and got confused doing the math on the great Profit/Loss sheet of life.

But I have a few bits of wisdom:

Birthdays, after age 21, are not half as much fun.

Being forty-four and feeling forty-four are two different things.

It's fun to say forty-four like a reject from The Wire.

My dad does shitty presents, but his heart is in the right place (I got breakfast, a card, and a lottery ticket - when did we move into a trailer, is what I want to know)

Hemi and Gatz also do shitty presents: Hemi dropped a mousie toy in my water and Gatz threw up in my car yesterday.

Chase is awesome. She gave me my only REAL present which is not shitty by any stretch of the imagination: Season 2 of Star Trek TOS. A goddess, I tell you.

My pseudo daughter student gave me roses on Friday. I thought they were beautiful and Hemi and Gatz thought they were delicious.

I apparently "front" that I can't find anything at Ann Taylor Loft that I like and end up buying things. What cracked me up about this was Chase's whimsical juxtaposition of street patios with the arch-typical teacher store Ann Taylor Loft. That's like saying "Talbots be mad fresh, yo."

I am still sad that I didn't see Cumberdick when I saw Frankenstein. Are there no illegal pics anywhere? That's the closest I'm ever going to get to that thing, I'd like to see it!

Clean sheets are awesome.

Free to Good Home: Old Man

So my Dad calls me at 6:30 am and asks me if I can come and take him to the hospital because he'd been vomiting all night and running a fever.

This is day 3 of FCAT. I had to give a test from 7:30 to 10:15. There is n way I can NOT be at school. I mean they'd take me on a stretcher with my limbs hanging by tendons and make me administer the test.

I told him to have his brother take him, I would call him as soon as I had a break and try to get out for the rest of the day. I gave him the school number and told him to leave a message with the receptionist (they've met) and she'd get it to me if there was an emergency.

Naturally I am a mess during the test. I made it through testing, made arrangements to get my classes covered (because the guy who is supposed to take care of that for us is useless as tits on a bull) and went home. I even stopped by the principal and told him what was going on and he told me to go home.

So I have an old man who is stoned on all kinds of meds sleeping while I clean the whole kitchen with the tried and true method of bleach and soapy water. I threw EVERYTHING older than 2 days out of the fridge except for mustard. Mustard will last forever, apparently. This one was marked 2012. I think the mustard from Tutankhamen's tomb is still good.

I took all the shelves and drawers out of the fridge and scrubbed everything. You could split the atom in there it was so clean when I was done.

So by the time I get back from Publix with fresh supplies and JellO cups, he's all chatty.

I wanted to kill him.

Seriously, I was afraid he'd gotten something House couldn't figure out and I'd be left alone to clean out the garage. I told him that I was going to ream him out tomorrow because I found Hemi's birthday cake (3/23) and a yogurt from 2009. He thought it was tremendously amusing because he was high on Tramadol. Now, Dad is under orders to stay home tomorrow and rest. I have an AP review to give until 4 and I go to H&R Block at 5 to get my taxes done.

Apparently, now my daughterly duties now include policing the refrigerator for what I call 'vintage' food.

If you ever see me on Antiques Roadshow, it will be with an ancient bottle of Cucumber Ranch salad dressing.
